cornfields & weddings

This weekend my cousin said her vows in a teeny tiny church in a teeny tiny town surrounded by the labyrinth of cornfields. Let me elaborate. I drove, and drove some more, down a county road to a "town" with a railroad and 5 gravel roads {first through fifth street} and made several turns between rows of never ending cornfields and there...sat a church. 

Don't let me misrepresent myself: I grew up in a farm town. where people lived. and the human to cow ratio was slightly higher. Jake on the other hand starts to get sweaty palms when we don't pass a gas station every 5 miles. But I must say, it was such a sweet and beautiful ceremony and being there did momentarily {only momentarily} make me miss my roots. My issue: I still get freaked out by Children of the Corn and I've never cared for banjos. You know they're not high on your priority list either.

This week I get the privilege to introduce you all to Emily! This girl has quickly become one of my favorite friends here in blog world...and for good reason! Can I just say how jealous I am for a moment? Not only has she traveled the world over but she's reflected that wanderlust in some stunning photography {I tend to come home from vacay with pics chocked full of awkward blurry faces and the inside of my purse}. Em can see the beauty all around her and in every day life. Her photography is just that and makes you see how alluring life is. 

Meet Emily of Anna Delores Photography:

The name "Anna Delores" comes from my maternal great-grandmother (Anna) and my paternal grandmother (Delores) in a salute to my heritage and appreciation of the influence of ancestry in my identity as an artist. DIY mason jar string lights

We spend a lot of time outside during the summers, especially summer evenings. I've been wanting to put up lights around our deck for awhile now. We wanted a calming, soft glow instead of a harsh spotlight. I was flipping through a wedding magazine and in the background of a photo there it was! The perfect mix between rustic simplicity and uniqueness. I knew I could whip these up...here's how:

What you'll need:

• 1/16" galvanized cable - enough to string desired area ($0.26/ft at Lowe's)
• 1/16" ferrules & stop (2pk) ($1.24)
• 1/2 pint mason jars - enough to place 1 jar/ft ($8.47/12)
• tealight candles - tip: get citronella scent to keep the bugs away ($5/50)
• nail
• hammer

Pop the lid out the band. Discard the lid. Use the hammer and nail to create matching holes on opposite sides of the band.

On one side of the cable place a ferrule (metal slide with 2 holes side by side). Insert the cable into one hole. Create a loop and stick the end of cable in the other hole. Clamp shut by using the hammer to flatten the ferrule.

Slide the open end of the cable through each lid. Place enough lids on the cable to have 1 lid/foot. Now loop & close the other end of cable like you did before. Hang the wire using the loops. Space out the lids and screw on a jar where you want the jar to hang. The jar and lid will clamp the wire once screwed together so the jar won't slide around.

Drop a tea light into each jar. Enjoy your dreamy glow in the warm summer air. I love this idea for a wedding too and hanging from the bottom branches of trees...gorgeous.

The total cost was around $32 for 36' and took less than 30 minutes! Feel free to !

little did you know...

Yes, I can longboard. Let's just say my center of gravity is more compatible with one than a skateboard. It gets messy real quick when I'm on a normal board...and when I wear platforms while riding, hence the bare tootsies. These pictures would have turned out much better on a pier with a glistening ocean in the background but low and behold I live in the midwest and a pier is not so much an option. Longboarding is as close as we get to surfing out here. At least we have plenty of hills with little traffic (and walking trails).

I can't believe I forgot how comfy a tee and jean shorts are! Hello, next best thing to pjs! Especially this tee. It's now the softest, comfiest one in my closet. It reminds me of one of my mom's old concert tee's that I wore until it was literally too thin to survive another washing. and then I wore it one more time. So when Junk Food Clothing asked me to participate in their first blogger project and potentially win a whole mess of their tees I jumped at the chance! Well, I squealed, ran around the room, and then jumped. They're letting their fans vote on which blogger styled look is their favorite then they'll be showering the winning blogger in Junk Food heaven! Sounds like a refreshing shower no? Yes, I actually wear glasses. Not the fake ones. When ordering them, I got a wonderful little memo sharing with me that my lenses would't fit into my beautiful new frames without the use of a shrink ray to allow my coke bottles to be a manageable weight. Because what good are glasses that are so heavy you can't lift your head to see. no good. that's what. So here's a BIG thank you to the maker of the high index lens! I couldn't be happier with my new glasses....there's something about a tortoise retro frame. ahhh. I guess I'll always be a nerd at heart.

On another note, I've finally attempted a top knot again after having my locks detached, at least that's what it feels like. I like to refer to it as a mini knot. I'm two seconds away from chopping up a sock to fill in my bun...yeah sock bun. Necessities come in all different forms.

So I know you've all been wondering what I wear to get dog food...no? My mistake. Well, for those of you who were curious, here you go! I actually had no intentions of taking outfit pics today but the fact that I put on lipstick to head to PetSmart must have thrown Jake for a loop because he grabbed the camera on the way out the door. Now, I couldn't go and pass up an outfit photo opt, could I? No.

Just before heading out the door, I glanced in the mirror and thought ugh...more color, definitely need more color. Hence the socks. So there you have it, socks are now banked in my accessory list. Along with fuchsia lipstick, giraffe necklaces, and hippie headbands. Just to name a few.
